STUDY.COM:
A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE

What is Study.com?

Study.com is a learning platform offering self-paced, online courses for college credit. It has over 220 course offerings, including some upper-level courses. This platform allows students to take college courses for as low as $200 per month. Is Study.com the right fit for my needs?

Whether you are looking for a cheaper, more flexible option to continue your college education, or a pre-requisite to satisfy a program requirement, Study.com provides tons of courses to fit the diverse needs of the 21st century student.

What Schools Accept Study.com?

Study.com has a list of partner institutions on their website, which encompasses some, but not all, of the schools that accept their credits. Over 1,500 schools accept credit from Study.com including Arizona State University and The University of Memphis.

The best way to figure out what credits your school accepts is to research their policies - typically located on their website and/or within a transfer equivalency portal. Examples of transfer equivalency portals include the Transfer Evaluation System from CollegeSource and Transferology.

Study.com strongly recommends contacting your school's registrar or admissions office to ask if they accept ACE or NCCRS recommended credits.

What is the total cost?

The total cost of Study.com is a flat fee of $200 per month. There are no fees for textbooks or courses. The cost of your Study.com credits will depend on how quickly you go through the courses.

How does it work?

  1. Choose Courses. Start one or more courses covering lower or upper division requirements. Great for pre-requisites or completing your degree.

  1. Earn College Credit. Complete courses by watching fun video lessons, taking short quizzes and the final exam, all from home.

  1. Transfer your credit. Transfer earned credits to your school and graduate sooner, and at a fraction of the cost.

How many courses can I take to earn credit per month?

You can take as many courses as you'd like per month, but you can only take 2 proctored exams each month under the College Accelerator subscription. You can purchase up to 3 more exam attempts each month for $70 for each additional exam. This allows you to earn credit for up to 5 courses month.

How are courses graded?

Your course grade is calculated out of 300 points. The minimum score required to pass and become eligible for college credit is 210 points, which is an overall course grade of 70%. Check the course syllabus to see a full breakdown of the point distribution for each course. Although a 70% score is required to pass a course, Study.com transcripts record course performance as a Pass or Fail result.

What happens if I don't pass a course?

If you have used all your exam attempts and cannot earn more points by retaking lesson quizzes or resubmitting required assignments, then you may not be able to achieve a passing score in your Study.com course. If you find yourself in this situation, we recommend speaking with an advisor at your school. They may be able to recommend alternative courses that you can take to fulfill the requirements for your degree plan.

Is Study.com an accredited college?

Study.com is not a college and does not confer degrees, so it cannot be accredited. However, Study.com does offer ACE & NCCRS recommended courses which many accredited universities will accept as transfer credit.

If Study.com isn't a college, then how can I earn college credit by taking your courses?

Study.com has over 200 courses that have been recommended as transferrable to accredited institutions by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS. If you pass any of Study.com's credit-recommended courses, then you can request a transcript for them from ACE or NCCRS that you can submit to your institution as transferable credit.

Are Study.com courses equivalent to college-level work?

Yes! ACE and NCCRS have determined that Study.com's credit-recommended courses meet the standards of college-level coursework at post-secondary institutions.

Are all Study.com courses recommended for credit by ACE and/or NCCRS?

No! While not all Study.com courses are credit-recommended, they offer over 200 ACE & over 100 NCCRS credit-recommended courses. You can see a full list of Study.com courses that ACE and NCCRS recommend for credit on their course’s page

How do I transfer the credit I earned to my school and what if my college requires a course grade?

You can transfer your Study.com credit to your school by sending them a Study.com, ACE, or NCCRS transcript. In general, all Study.com partners accept Study.com transcripts while some other colleges will prefer an ACE or NCCRS transcript. Follow the steps here to request a transcript from Study.com.

To request transcripts from ACE, you'll need to create an account on Credly's Acclaim platform. Follow the instructions here to get started.

Talk to the school where you're transferring your credit to see which transcript they prefer.

How long does it take for a transcript to arrive at my school?

Transcripts typically arrive to schools within 1-3 weeks after you request them.

How do I cancel my subscription, and can I cancel anytime?

You can cancel online through your Profile page at any time. You can also pause your account at any time as well. Pausing your account stops your account from being charged and restricts your access, but allows for your membership to remain active.

What happens to my coursework if I cancel in the middle of a course?

If you cancel your subscription in the middle of a course, your progress remains attached to your account. Simply, resubscribe to Study.com to pick up where you left off.
