Other Online Resources – Do They Help?

Many students who want to take courses and exams that might give them college credits—AP, CLEP, DSST, Sophia Learning, StraighterLine, want to self-study or cannot afford tutoring. They will consider using resources outside their textbooks or slides to fully understand the concepts. Aside from having them save for spending on expensive tutoring services, using other online resources will give them total control of their study phase.

Advantages of using online resources

Student will have added flexibility and will have self-phased learning.

They will be trained on proper time management

Some online resources offer wider range of courses and programs.

They can access accurate and relevant study materials for a convenient price or even for free.

Disadvantages of using online resources

Students should be wary of the quality of these resources. They should make sure that the resources they are using are reputable and that they are actually helpful. They should also make sure that the resources they are using are updated, as many online resources are often outdated.

Student will not have access to some of the materials that they may need to study for the exam. Online resources are often cheaper than physical books and other materials, however, they will not be able to take a physical copy of the book with them. Therefore, they may need to buy multiple copies of the book at a later time if they want a physical copy.

Student may fall prey to online scams. The digital would is full of people wanting to help others succeed, but we cannot deny the fact that there also exist people that want to take advantage.

Some students may feel exhausted or feel lazy studying on their own and will lead to procrastination which can be a huge downfall. Online resources can also be a distraction and can lead to a lower quality of work.

If you are confident enough that you can avoid experiencing the disadvantages of using other online resources, then you are free to use them aside from the official study materials and study guides. After all, most of these online materials were created to help you ace your exam.

Although official study resources and guides are still the top choice for most students, it is hard to ignore the growing popularity of other online resources that offers almost or even higher quality of outputs in terms of exam preparations.

Digitization of learning is an exciting opportunity that has enabled more students (regardless of their background) to access high-quality study materials online. However, it is critical that students should also know that not all resources found online are accurate and credible. Always use them with caution!
