CLEP

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a program affiliated with CollegeBoard that administers CLEP tests. CLEP offers 34 exams that cover introductory-level college course material. With a passing score on one CLEP exam, you could earn three or more college credits at 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities. CLEP tests cost $90 (free with a ModernStates voucher).

AP

The Advanced Placement® Program (AP) is a program affiliated with College Board that offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses and exams in high school and earn college credit, advanced placement, or both at many colleges and universities in the U.S. and around the world. AP exams cost $93 (free with a ModernStates voucher) and grant students anywhere from 1-8+ credits depending on the school, typically they grant 3-6 credits.

DSST

DSST is a program offering tests that you can take to earn college credit for knowledge you acquired outside of a traditional classroom. There are 38 subject exams from which to select in disciplines such as Business, Humanities, Mathematics, Physical Science, and more. DSST tests cost $100 and grant students anywhere from 1-8+ credits depending on the school, typically they grant 3 credits.

Sophia Learning

Sophia Learning is a learning platform offering self-paced, online courses for college credit. This platform allows students to take unlimited courses for just $99 a month. These courses will mainly cover general education credits and many schools don’t accept credit from Sophia. On their website, you can see a list of their partner schools that accept their credit.

StraighterLine

StraighterLine is an educational company that offers low-price, online higher education courses that are equivalent to general courses required for a bachelor's degree. This platform offers students to take courses that cost $59 each with a monthly subscription of $99. These courses will mainly cover general education credits. They have a list of partner institutions on their website that shows some of the schools that accept their credits.

Dual Credit

Dual credit programs allow secondary students to earn both high school and college credits for courses taken while they are in high school. In order to qualify, students typically must meet the same admissions requirements as their college-level peers. Courses include both academic courses as well as technical courses. While many high schools have dual credit class offerings, there are also options for students to earn these credits online.
